Decoration + Design Moderated Panel Discussion

We welcomed international guest Martyn Lawrence Bullard to the panel alongside Australian design talent; Thomas Hamel, Greg Natale & Marco Meneguzzi.

This moderated discussion saw 4 design experts talk about HOW DESIGN WILL PLAY ON THE INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE OF 2012.

Moderated by Robyn Holt (judge on The Renovators and editor of Vogue Living for over a decade) this intimate panel discussion was a highlight of the fair.

MARTYN LAWRENCE BULLARD

Martyn Lawrence Bullard is an illustrious and multiple award winning interior designer known for his glamorous and worldly interiors for high profile and celebrity clientele that ranges from rock stars to royalty. His global visionary point-of-view of making homes luxurious sanctuaries has made him an arbiter of taste whose larger than life client list includes Cher, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Ellen Pompeo, Kid Rock, Sharon and Ozzie Osbourne and Tamara Mellon, founder and President of Jimmy Choo.

THOMAS HAMEL

Thomas Hamel is an award-winning international interior designer and founder and director of Thomas Hamel & Associates, established in 1990 with the aim of providing the ultimate in professional interior design and decorative services. Thomas Hamel projects a unique sense of style together with a strong feeling about proportion and good design. An international background has trained Thomas’ eye away from the fashions and gimmickry in decoration; so, while keeping in touch with trends, there is an underlying current of timeless tradition in his interiors.

GREG NATALE

Greg Natale has been in the design industry for 15 years, honing his experience in various practices and working across the full spectrum of corporate interiors through to high-end residential projects. In 2001 he started Greg Natale Design with the core purpose of creating cutting edge work through the integration of design and decoration; focusing on residential, retail and commercial design. His work has won numerous awards, appeared in local and international press and has been published in many books alongside renowned international designers from the United States and Europe. His practice has expanded into residential architecture and in 2010 he collaborated with Designer Rugs to release a new range, realising the firm’s objective of diversifying into other design disciplines. In 2011, Greg was awarded Belle Coco Republic Interior Designer of the Year. He was also involved in the judging of Australia’s 2011 Interior Design Awards and Channel 10’s The Renovators. The integration of architecture, design and decoration is Greg’s primary motivation and design philosophy.

MARCO MENEGUZZI

Travelling is key in Marco’s design journey. Where ever he is in the world, be it in a humming marketplace in Marrakesh or on a luxury boat sailing the Mediterranean, visuals and influences add layers to his constantly evolving design references. His projects are strongly influenced by current design trends, especially out of Belgium which embrace fluid and organic designs based around simplicity. He feels that this relaxed elegance indeed compliments our Australian lifestyles. Given our enviable climate, his designs tend to blur the exterior spaces with the interiors - creating sitting areas in loggias or cabanas; extending spaces, and using rooms in surprising ways. The relaxed contemporary lifestyle this creates is reinforced by use of washable linens, bespoke slip covers and easy-to-live-with designs.
