Turning the tables green

10 September 2009

Conference and club furniture specialist Innova Group has announced plans to turn its business green over the next five years, and has started with the re-engineering of one of its strongest selling lines.

Innova TrestleInnova CEO Graham Smith said the company, which launched in 1999, had begun creating eco friendly product two years ago. Having recently confirmed its attendance at the Australian International Furniture Fair in Sydney next February, it planned to capitalise on exposure at the event to promote its newly "greened" Mity Lite range.

"The new Mity Lite range looks the same but uses recyclable cardboard honeycomb core, with a mild steel frame," he said.

The company, which was also experimenting with bamboo and recyclable resins across a number of its product lines, was also undergoing certification through GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia).

"We're pretty optimistic we'll have the certification by the time of the fair," he said, adding that the decision to "go green" made sound commercial sense.

"The Government is planning to introduce incentives to procure green product and we want to be ready to capitalise on that when it occurs."

Innova Group is an Australian-owned manufacturer and supplier of quality, flexible furniture solutions for the multi-purpose function room market. Its products include tables, chairs and event-related accessories. The company's clients include hotels and convention centres, clubs, community halls, restaurants and schools.
