Furniture fair busts records

Times may have been tough for the furniture industry over the past couple of years, but a record selling period for the Australian International Furniture Fair appears to have bucked the trend and hints at renewed optimism for the sector.

HowkinsA representative of the Australian International Furniture Fair confirmed that in the three weeks to Friday 3 October the trade fair secured an unprecedented 2,144 square metres of stand space sales, compared to 1,554 square metres for the previous corresponding period, and unprecedented in recent memory.

The spokesperson cited significant interest from overseas exhibitors as well as the current strength of the Australian dollar and renewed market confidence as possible reasons for the surge of interest.

The Australian International Furniture Fair will take place at the Sydney Exhibition Centre from 3 - 5 February 2010. With stand spaces selling fast, confirmed exhibitors at the trade fair include a host of world class international companies.

Meanwhile Australian made brands showing will include Atama Furniture, Lounge Innovation, Laidir, Papillion, Sleepyhead, Urban Edge Innovations, Just Leather Furniture, Rex Heathcote, Morgon Furniture, Antry, Howkins (screen pictured above left), Designs in Timber, Ritossa Furnishers, AH Beard and Contempo Furniture(pictured right).
